Karen Mathiowetz was raised in a very patriotic family. Both her
parents served in World War II, her mother in the Navy and her father
in the Marines. It is no wonder when Karen enlisted in the Air Force in
1972 that she just felt she was doing her duty, nothing special, just
her duty as an American citizen. She never gave it a second thought the
sacrifice she was making or things she might be giving up, because,
after all it was just her duty.

another 90,000 wounded. Almost 5,000 were listed as missing in action
and we're continually learning that some of the POW's were taken into
Russia and China.
