On Monday, June 30, at 7 a.m. many people could be seen carrying the flag of the United States of America at the Italy Cemetery. They were looking for veterans to place flags by their graves. This was being done to let everyone know that they might be gone, but not forgotten.

First United Methodist Church of Italy hosts a sale at least twice a year. In May, the church held a BBQ sale for Mother's Day. The next one is scheduled for November 1. However, they have begun early by selling themed baskets and antique furniture by silent auction. Proceeds go to the local Methodist Church.

The Cow Creek Country Classic begins Saturday, June 28 at Waxahachie High School. The Classic is hosted by the Waxahachie Rotary Club. All levels of riders are invited to participate. Routes include 10, 19, 36, 46, 75 and 100 miles and this ride is not a race. Start time is 7:30 a.m. and no riders will be started after 8:30 a.m.

It is no wonder when Karen enlisted in the Air Force in 1972 that she just felt she was doing her duty, nothing special, just her duty as an American citizen. She never gave it a second thought the sacrifice she was making or things she might be giving up, because, after all it was just her duty.

On 25 June, 1950, North Korea launched an attack into South Korea. The resulting "police action" left over 30,000 U.S. servicemen dead and another 90,000 wounded. Almost 5,000 were listed as missing in action and we're continually learning that some of the POW's were taken into Russia and China.

Cheerleading sponsor Lee Owens has a big smile his face these days. He said, "We had a great camp and we have a great group of girls." The Italy Varsity and Junior High cheerleaders went to Baylor University last week to learn stunts, dances and cheers for the upcoming season. The teams won Superior Rating for the best squad and best improved squad.
